Lowell R. “Crow” Pettyjohn, age 84, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Knoxville Hospital and Clinics.
Crow was born on June 1, 1935 in Hamilton, Iowa, the son of Walter and Elsie (Barnhill) Pettyjohn. He grew up in Marysville and attended and graduated from Country School. Crow was united in marriage to Barbara Roland on May 8, 1970. They were blessed with five children, Thomas “Toot”, Teresa, Noreen, Angela, and Shari and they enjoyed almost 41 years of marriage before Barbara’s passing on May 6, 2011.
Crow was employed as a custodian at the Knoxville Jr. High School for 35 years and retired from there. He enjoyed gambling with his wife on the casino boat and will be remembered as a jokester. His family was the most important thing to him and he enjoyed spending time with them.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville, beginning at 4:00 P.M. Crow’s family will be present to greet friends and relatives from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 28, 2019 at the Winfield Funeral Home at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Brent Hanna officiating. Burial services will follow at Marysville Cemetery.
Those left to cherish Crow’s memory include his children, Teresa Smith of Des Moines, Noreen (Dave) Yarbrough of Malcolm, Angie (John) Pettyjohn of Ottumwa, and Shari Beaty of Knoxville; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Verna (Donald) Means of Milan, Illinois.
Crow is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Elsie Pettyjohn; wife, Barbara Pettyjohn; son, Thomas “Toot” Smith; five brothers; nine sisters; one granddaughter; and five great-grandchildren.
