Louise Marie Stierwalt

A Celebration of Life for Louise Marie Stierwalt, of Chariton, will be held Thursday, March 21, 2019 from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Memorials may be made to Louise's family. Louise Marie Stierwalt was born in Coon Rapids, Iowa on February 6, 1933 to Willi and Rose Kanzmeier. She had one brother, Bill, and two sisters, LaVonne and Marion. In 1951, after graduating from Coon Rapids High School, she went to work for the law offices of Minnich and Minnich in Carroll, Iowa where she stayed for nearly a decade. In 1962, she married Russell Stierwalt and the two relocated to Nebraska. Together, they had a daughter, Rosemary. In the early 1970s, they moved back to Iowa. In thirty years, the two farmed, owned and operated a roadside motel, ran a funeral home, and ultimately returned to farming. After Russell died, Louise stayed on the farm for many years. Winter snowstorms, fear of power outages, and isolation prompted her to move to Chariton. Once in town, Louise enjoyed volunteer work for the Tenco Association and serving as an advocate for the nursing home. She enjoyed lunch and conversation at the senior citizens center, getting together with the Hospice Club, and meeting up with family and friends at the Lakeside Casino. Louise was a big believer in visiting the sick whether they were at home, in the hospital, in assisted living, or in hospice. She will be remembered most for the mercy and comfort she gave to others by holding a hand, lending an ear, or giving a ride; and when she needed mercy and comfort herself, receiving it abundantly. Louise passed away March 15, 2019 at the age of 86. She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Rosemary (Mark) Dunston of Santa Fe, NM; granddaughters, Sarah Dunston and Emily Dunston; brother, Bill (Vivian) Kanzmeier of Coon Rapids, IA; and sister, LaVonne (Virgil) Bane of Scranton, IA. Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Willi and Rose Kanzmeier; husband, Russell Stierwalt; sister, Marion Long; and niece, Renee Bane. Celebration of Life
