Lloyd LaVern Brown was born June 21, 1929, in Jasper County, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with Lloyd’s family present to greet friends and relatives at the Winfield/Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Knoxville. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at the funeral home at 10:30 am, with Pastor Brent Hanna officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasantville Cemetery, with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Lloyd’s name to EveryStep Hospice or Knoxville Senior Meals.

He was the son of Perry and Letha (Nearmeyer) Brown. Lloyd graduated high school in Attica, Iowa. He helped his father on the farm prior to enlisting in the Army.

Lloyd served in Korea from March 1951 to December 1952. He served the remainder of his service time in the Army Reserve from December 1952 to April 1957 in Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland and received an Honorable Discharge. Lloyd then made a career working at the VA Hospital in Knoxville, IA as a psychiatric nursing assistant. Lloyd also was a school bus driver for Twin Cedars and mowed local cemeteries.

On November 5, 1982, Lloyd was united in marriage to Alice Gleta Leonard at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Lloyd and Alice loved to travel and spent every winter for 17 years in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Lloyd and Alice attended the Old Thresher’s Reunion for over 40 years. He enjoyed playing cards with his dear friend, Millie Meckley, and he cherished his visits with many other friends and family. Lloyd was a longtime member of the Attica Methodist Church and the Pleasantville Methodist Church. Over the past 5 years he enjoyed the company and care of his close companion, Marilyn Rice. In August 2022, the military honored him with the Dream Flight.

Lloyd passed away Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the Accura Health Care Center in Knoxville, Iowa at the age of 93 years.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Diane Brown; stepson Daniel (Theresa) Fears; stepson Kevin (Donna) Beeman; stepdaughter Shelly Stoll (Doug Scott), step daughter Dee Nesselroad; step son Paul Leonard; brother Glen (Dixie) Brown; nephews Darwin Brown and Duane (Barbara) Brown; companion Marilyn Rice; life-long friends Dave and Joyce Shanks; and many step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lloyd is preceded in death by his loving wife, Alice Brown; parents Perry and Letha Brown; brother Gordon Brown; sister-in-law Willa Brown; niece Joan Brown; stepdaughter Jeannie Moody, step son-in-law Kenneth Moody, and dear friend Millie Meckley.
