Lily Lucille Sterling

Lily Lucille Sterling, age 84, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away on August 14, 2019 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.
Lily was born on November 18, 1934 in Mahaska County, Iowa, the daughter of John Jonathan Jones and Tressa Altheo Shilling. She was united in marriage to Richard L. “Dick” Sterling on January 7, 1956 in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Visitation for Lily will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. with family present to greet friends and relatives. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 19, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. David Weesner officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Following burial services, a luncheon will be held at the First United Methodist Church.
Lily is survived by her husband, Dick Sterling; daughter, Vicki (Richard) Tonda; son, D. Ross (Susan) Sterling; six grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Randy Jones; sisters, Lucretia Spaur and Louretta Redding; brother-in-law, Hubert Parker; also many nieces and nephews.
Lily is preceded in death by her daughter, Gwen Jones; her first husband, Donald Van Loon; her parents; four brothers and five sisters.
Memorials may be given in Lily’s memory to the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville.
