Letha attended country school until the 8th grade, then attended Goldfield High School where she graduated in 1947. She attended secretarial school for a year before she married Carl Martin on October 20, 1950 in the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union, they were blessed with four children: Dennis, Connie, Janice, and Gary. Letha and her husband were farmers until 1971, then moved to Indianola where they owned and operated Indian Lanes for 10 years. They retired and resided in Milo. Letha was a very hard worker, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, but a very quiet and reserved woman when it came to the public. Letha was very family oriented and found much joy taking care of her grandchildren. Letha was a very good cook, especially her homemade noodles and desserts. She also did a lot of canning from their own garden. She enjoyed playing games and card games with her family. She found enjoyment watching the squirrels and birds out in the yard. Those left to cherish Letha's memory are her children: Dennis (Jody) Martin of Sioux City, Connie (Brian) Mykleby of Bettendorf, Janice (Curt) Block of Oskaloosa, and Gary (Marilyn) Martin of Chariton; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and one on the way; and many relatives and friends. Preceding Letha in death were her parents, Walter and Ada; her husband, Carl; brothers: Sylvus, Frances, Raynard, and Norman; and an infant sister, Kathryn.
