Leonard "Sam" Thomas Crowe

Funeral services for Leonard "Sam" Crowe, 87 of Melcher-Dallas will be held March 1, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Melcher-Dallas. Family will receive friends on Monday, February 29, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas. A wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to HCI of Knoxville or the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Leonard "Sam" Thomas Crowe was born September 25, 1928 in Melcher, Iowa to Samuel and Mary Crowe. He graduated from Melcher High School in 1946 and married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Matkovich, in 1949. They were blessed with four children: Mike, Teresa, David, and Beth. After years of running his own businesses and work in factories, he ultimately retired after 30 years from Firestone in 1992. Sam had a deep faith and was active in the Knights of Columbus. He will be remembered as being a friend to all who knew him. Sam enjoyed the Hawkeyes, hunting, wild game feeds, golf, dancing, and singing with his friends. He always enjoyed a fun get together with family and friends. Sam liked woodworking and building toys for his grandchildren. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he cherished the time he was able to spend with them. Sam passed away February 26, 2016, at the age of 87. Preceding him in death were his siblings: Florine Moore, Alberta Jones, Celia Crowe, and Arthur Crowe. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Ann; his children: Mike Crowe, Teresa Hyatt, David (Carlyn) Crowe, and Beth (Paul) Gibbins; nine grandchildren: Jennifer Forkenbrock, Sarah Collins, Michael Hyatt, Christopher Hyatt, Sam Crowe, Taylor Gibbins, Morgan Gibbins, Henry Gibbins, and Grace Gibbins; and three great grandchildren: Noah Forkenbrock, Sean Collins and Natalie Collins, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
