Private family graveside services for Leona Kay Hoch, 83, of Lacona will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bauer Cemetery. Cards may be sent to Clemmie Hoch at 2217 20th Place, Lacona, Iowa 50139 or memorials may be made to the Lacona Fire Department or Melcher-Dallas Fire Department. Leona was born January 13, 1937 at home in Chariton, Iowa to Everett and Wilma (Keller) Bumbarger. She was raised in Chariton. Leona met Clemmie Hoch, and they were united in marriage on May 8, 1954. To this union, they were blessed with five children: Larry, Clifford, Barbara, Debra, and Jean. They made their home in Bauer, Iowa where they lived for 55 years. Leona worked at the Overall Factory in Knoxville before becoming a fork truck operator at Maytag where she worked for 25 years before retiring. Leona enjoyed collecting geese, watching football, and going to the Osceola casino. She also would go to the Izaak Walton League in Newton on Thursday evenings to play cards and have dinner. Her kids were raised on the river where they had a bus camper. They spent many weekends fishing using ditty poles, swimming, cooking hot dogs, playing on the sandbar, and visiting the dam on Sundays. She was a member of the "Marion County Red Rock Coon Hunters Association" by Bussey. They had "Hoch's Dog Supplies" where they travelled and sold supplies in many states for coon hunts. Leona enjoyed going to the races, where Clemmie was a push truck driver and she would ride along with him. She would watch sprint car and Nascar races on TV. She enjoyed life to the fullest. She stated she had a good life. Leona passed away December 20, 2020 at the age of 83 at Mercy West. Preceding her in death were her parents: Everett and Wilma Bumbarger and her granddaughter, Connie. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Clemmie Hoch; children: Larry Hoch, Clifford (Kathy) Hoch, Barbara (William) Dickerson, Debra Payton, and Jean Hoch; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and two sisters: Norma Hatcher and Ruth Chapman.
