Funeral services for Leo 'Charlie' Miller, 89, of rural Milo, will be Monday, June 5, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lacona. Leo passed away at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines on May 31, 2017. Interment will be at the Liberty Center Cemetery. Family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Lacona. Leo Miller was born January 15, 1928 in Reydon, Oklahoma to Edward and Myrtle (Shockley) Miller. At the age of 5 he moved to Iowa with his parents after his father's death, he went to live with his brother in Oklahoma to finish high school. He graduated in 1946 from Sweetwater High School. After graduation he moved back to Iowa and worked at Solar Aircraft until the plants closing. He was married to Thelma Mae Tripp on February 14, 1948. They were blessed with four children: Darrell, Ron, Linda, and Larry. After Solar closed they moved to the Liberty Center area where they bought a farm. Leo farmed, painted, and did carpenter work over the years. He liked to make things with his hands and enjoyed woodworking. He loved to garden and enjoyed supplying many neighbors and friends with tomatoes and other produce. He also loved to spend time with his brother Leonard. One of their activities was canning tomatoes. After retiring he enjoyed his daily trip in to the office at the top of the hill for a beer with his buddies. His greatest love was his family. He enjoyed many fishing trips to Canada with his boys and always looked forward to family get togethers and seeing his grandchildren. Leo passed away at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines on May 31, 2017 at the age of 89. Surviving is his wife of 69 years, Thelma; children: Darrell (Misty) Miller, Ron (Kathy) Miller, Linda Miller, and Larry (Mary) Miller; his brother, Leonard Miller; 11 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and 8 great great grandchildren. Along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents: Edward and Myrtle Miller; step father Wilber Gillette, and siblings: Everett Miller, Ray Miller, and Hazel Patterson.
