Lawrence "Plute" Amoss

Lawrence William ?Plute? Amoss, age 81, of rural Albia died Monday, January 16, 2006 at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born December 24, 1924 in Hocking, Iowa to Dom and Helen (Boden) Amoss. He married Darlene Marlin on January 20, 1946 in the United Brethren Church in Albia. Lawrence was a graduate of Albia High School, class of 1942. He had farmed all of his life and later also worked for National By-Product, Inc. retiring in 1990. He was a charter member of the Monroe County F.F.A. and a 4-H Leader. He enjoyed the Monroe County Fair, square danced, and enjoyed attending auctions even clerking some of them. Lawrence loved his family, spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Darlene of Albia; one son, Dennis and wife Karen Amoss of Albia; and one daughter Delores Johnson and husband Mike of Monroe, Iowa; 4 grandchildren, William and Brian Johnson, Troy Amoss and Lynnette Major; 10 great grandchildren, Kenzie, Kolten, Drew, David Lawrence, Evan, Brock, Shay, Austin, Allison, and Avery. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; 3 infant brothers; and one sister, June Gutcher. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, January 18 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia with Rev. Kevin Leveck officiating. Burial will be in the Oakview Cemetery in Albia. Visitation will begin after 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 17 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia with the family present from 5-8 P.M. Tuesday evening. Casketbearers will be William and Brian Johnson, Troy Amoss, Josh Major, Jim McDonough, and Don Marlin. Honorary Casketbearers will be Jerry Griffin, Larry Derby, and Dean Lathrop. Memorials have been established to the Monroe County 4-H or F.F.A. Programs.
