Laverne Hauenstein

Laverne Hauenstein, age 83, of 1284 310th Street of Bussey, Iowa died Thursday, August 9, 2007 at the V.A. Medical Center in Knoxville. He was born May 1, 1924 in Mahaska County, Iowa to Virgil Henry and Gladys (Ferguson) Hauenstein. Laverne graduated from Tracy High School and was his class Valedictorian. He served during WWII in the US Naval Air Corp, as a radio man, stationed on the PBY Catalina, near Seattle, Washington. After his service Laverne married Elizabeth M. Current on September 13, 1947 in Knoxville, Iowa. Laverne farmed all his life in the Bussey area. Laverne is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of Bussey; three sons, Harold (Mary) Hauenstein of Bussey, Martin Hauenstein of Oskaloosa, and Dale Hauenstein of Oskaloosa; three daughters, Ginny (Steve) Stewart of Bussey, Marsha (Dennis) Beller of Knoxville, and Melody (Harley) Wilson of Runnells; 14 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Laverne is also survived by one brother, Verlan (Dorothy) Hauenstein of Leighton; and four sisters, Marie (Robert) Mason of Bloomfield, Mildred Holdsworth of Newton, Doris (Lewis) Stansberry of Knoxville, and June (Harris) VanEssen of Tracy. Laverne?s parents, Virgil and Gladys, precede him in death. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 13, 2007 at the Bussey United Methodist Church in Bussey with Rev. Jill Leveck officiating. Burial will follow services at Bellefountaine Cemetery in Tracy, Iowa. Following the interment, the family invites you to join them for lunch at the Bussey United Methodist Church. Visitation will open after 12:00P.M., Sunday, August 12, 2007 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia with the family being present from 6-8 P.M. Sunday evening. Memorials have been established to the Bussey United Methodist Church or Bussey First Responders.
