Laurie L. Mason

Funeral services for Laurie Mason, 64, of Lacona, will be held Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lacona Christian Church with burial at the Cochran Cemetery near Lacona. Family will receive friends on Monday, from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lacona. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lacona Christian Church or the Lacona Fire Department.

Born January 1, 1960, in Chariton, Iowa, Laura Louise Rankin was the second of five children of Arlan and Annie Rankin. Laurie was always close to her family, especially her siblings: Marcie, Gayle, Kyle, and Keri. She attended school in Lacona, graduating from Southeast Warren High School in 1978. After high school she began working for Bell Telephone and then began a daycare in her home, Laurie enjoyed babysitting for many years.  She later went to work for the SEW Schools as a cook and was still working until her illness no longer allowed her to continue.

She was married to Michael Mason on February 22, 1992. Laurie loved her family, and was blessed with four children: Mallory, Brody, Haley, and Tiffany; 5 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and great nieces, and nephews. She was absolutely the best grandma to her grandchildren but was also the best aunt and great aunt. Everyone in the family received a beautifully crocheted blanket. When Laurie had free time she enjoyed cross-stitching, and watching game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune.  She had a great sense of humor and would laugh out loud when watching Everybody Loves Raymond.

Laurie had a strong faith in God. She drew her strength and toughness from her faith and never let worldly things bother her. This was most evident the last several months as she went through surgeries and treatments with a big smile and a great sense of humor. Laurie led her family through these difficult times with confidence and strength, as she knew where she was going and that the Lord would take care of her and her family.

Laurie passed away January 10, 2024, surrounded by many loved ones. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Michael Mason; children: Mallory    (Samantha) Schaffer, Brody (Kelsey) Schaffer, Haley (Kurt) Spaur, Tiffany (Brandon) Mason; grandchildren: Aubrey, Bryson, Solomon, Paisley, Delilah, plus one on the way; siblings: Marcie (Jim) Kimzey, Gayle (Kevin) Konrad, Kyle (DeDe) Rankin, and Keri (Chuck) Cleveland; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Arlan and Annie Rankin; and nieces, Allison and Emily.
