Lynn Marie Wilson

June 12, 1959 — December 30, 2023

Urbandale

Lynn Marie Wilson, 64, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, December 30, 2023, in her home in Urbandale, Iowa holding her sister’s hand and getting a comforting lick from her cat, King, who was laying above her head. A private service was held. A celebration of life will be held in Urbandale in May. Burial will take place in Sheldon with a small graveside service also in May.

Memorials and cards may be sent to her sister, Laura Wilson, at 27316 500th St., Chariton, IA.

Lynn was born June 12, 1959, to Rose Marie (Thietje) Wilson and “Bud” Wesley William Wilson. She graduated from Sheldon High School in the class of 1977, and later from the University of Northern Iowa in 1982 with a BA in 7-12 education English and Speech. She taught high school speech and English in Little Rock, Iowa for two years. Lynn then moved to the Des Moines area to teach speech and English in the Perry High School where she worked from 1984-1998. Miss Wilson was very in tune with her students, and before each bus ride to speech contests, she encouraged them to: Have fun and make friends, always do your best, and serve and support others.

Her most treasured roles were to be “thee speech coach” in the Little Rock and Perry High Schools and to be one of the directors of the Sheldon High School Summer Theatre for numerous summers in Sheldon, Iowa. Lynn left teaching in 1998 after her arthritis did not allow her to continue the rigorous schedule that being an educator requires, and that’s when she went to work at Iowa Public Television as their Director in K-12 Educational Services. At Iowa Public Television, Lynn traveled the state of Iowa doing workshops with teachers about the IPTV services available to them for free of charge.

Lynn enjoyed collecting elephants, watching the Minnesota Twins, and writing. She clicked off many last wishes in the last 21 months of “living with cancer” including writing a book “Of The Universe, Poetry of my World”, giving her elephants away to visitors, and attending two more twins games at Target Field. She loved baseball, because in baseball, you win when you go home.

Lynn has “gone home” to be with her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, sister-in-law, and nephews. She is survived by her siblings: “Bill” William Wilson (Ft Pierre, SD), Mike Wilson (Cedar Rapids, IA), and Laura Wilson (Chariton/Clear Lake, IA); nieces, nephews, and great nieces: Nicole (Joe) Woessner (Lennox, SD), “Wes” Wesley (Melinda) Tremmel (Garner, IA), Bee Tremmel (Minneapolis, MN), Brody Wilson, Kassaday Summers, Krimzon Summers, Chambree Woessner, and “Izzy” Isabella Tremmel; and close friends: Trisha, Wade, and Evan Eldridge (Waukee, IA) and Peggy Spaur (Urbandale, IA).
