Larry Reece

Services for Larry Reece, 83, of Chariton, will be Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Interment will be at the Chariton Cemetery following the service. A luncheon will be held at the funeral home for a time of fellowship and visiting.

Family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home.

Lawrence Leon “Larry” Reece was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on December 1, 1938 to Otis and Nadine Plumb Reece, the second of five children. Larry grew up on a farm near Clemons, Iowa and attended Union Whitten High School, graduating in 1957. He played basketball in High School, earning the distinction of All-State Basketball member.

Larry and his four siblings grew up poor. He was always very driven and a work-aholic. Larry drove a rock truck for a time after high school. He and his younger brother bought a service station in 1959 and operated as Standard Oil Jobbers for several years.

On March 24, 1961, Larry married Ramona Luiken. They were blessed with three children: Brad, Connie, and Tracy. Larry, with his brother, worked with ag chemicals and was a custom applicator in the 60’s and 70’s. In 1978, they moved to Chariton to farm and in 1996 started Reece Enterprises. Ramona passed away on July 4, 2005.

On July 7, 2008, Larry was married to Jeanne Rowe. He always had a good time with family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Larry like spending time in Branson and at the lake, even though he didn’t really like boating or grilling. He also enjoyed bowling and having an occasional beer. Attending the Iowa State Fair was one of his favorite activites. Larry had a huge heart and would do anything for anyone.

Larry passed away February 17, 2022.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Jeanne Reece; children: Brad (Cathy) Reece, Connie (Terry) Carpenter, and Tracy (Kelley) Reece all of Chariton; grandchildren: Jenna (Joel) Beary, Andrea (Logan) McGee, Alissa (Bradley) Evans, Haley (Ryan Putz) Reece, Riley Reece, Kurt (Whitney) Carpenter, and Kyle (Kelci) Carpenter; great grandchildren: Ella, Knox, Olivia, Isabelle, Kade, Weston, Kenzie, Kacie, and two on the way; sisters, Joan (John) Vannordstrand and Sharon (Ron) Willey; sister-in-law, Dolores Reece; and Jeanne’s family.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona in 2005; his brothers, Leo Reece and LaVern Reece; sister-in-law, Pat Reece; and brother-in-law, Mike McGrew.
