Larry Merrill

Larry Ronald Merrill, age 69, of Albia, Iowa died Thursday, April 13, 2006 at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born November 20, 1936 in Monroe County, Iowa to Roy Monroe and Georgia Maxine (Sines) Merrill. He married Janice K. Sigler December 23, 1957 in Monroe County. Larry was a graduate of Albia High School and also a graduate of Criminal Justice Program at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa. He had served as Special Deputy for Clair Bates in Monroe County and then served as a police officer in Centerville where he made sergeant. He became a commercial pilot and was also a flight instructor. He had owned and operated LM Aviation and then JanDal Aviation in Albia, Started Merrill Security and ran it for 20 years, and owned and operated JanDal Enterprises Construction Company in Albia. He had served as Monroe County Sheriff for 10 years, all in all serving in Law Enforcement for 40 years. Larry also enjoyed farming his whole life. He is survived by his wife, Janice of Albia; three children, Kim (Terry) Brimeyer of Carroll, Iowa, Julie (Dave) Bennett of Bloomfield, Iowa, and Larry (Dalene) Merrill Jr. of Albia; 6 grandchildren, Terry Thomas Jr., Angie Thomas, Ashley Thomas, Brandon Garrels, Larry Ronald Merrill III, Megan Merrill; and one great grandson, Chandler Thomas. Also surviving are his mother, Maxine Merrill of Albia; and one brother, Keith Leroy (Linda) Merrill of Albia. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Roy Monroe Merrill. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 17, 2006 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia with Rev. Lois Williams officiating. Burial will be on Larry?s farm in the Merrill Family Cemetery in rural Monroe County. Visitation will open after 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 16, 2006 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia with the family present from 6-8 P.M. Sunday evening. Casketbearers will be Don Powless, Paul Resczenko, Jr., Scott Dunning, Larry R. Merrill III, Brandon Garrels, and Terry Thomas, Jr. An memorial has been established to the family
