Larry L. Flanders

April 13, 1939 — July 4, 2019

Larry Flanders, 80, of rural Russell, passed away on July 4, 2019 at the Legacy Lodge in Chariton. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 13 from 10:00 until 12:00 am at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Memorials may be made in care of Larry's family. Larry Flanders was born April 13, 1939 in Melcher, Iowa. He was one of seven children born to Francis and Mildred Caulkins Flanders. As a teenager, Larry briefly worked at a rodeo with his dad. He also lived in a chuck wagon in the mountains of Utah looking after cattle. Larry had many wonderful experiences in life, and had a very gifted way of telling others about them. Larry was set up on a blind date with a young lady named Charlotte Paulsen. The couple fell in love, and on Christmas day in 1959, they were united in marriage. Larry and Charlotte were blessed with two children, Brenda and Wade. Larry was a proud father and his son, Wade, was a chip off the old block. Larry was a hard worker. He worked for a time as a welder at Des Moines Steel. He also worked on both the Saylorville and Red Rock Damns. Larry was a talented carpenter. He loved to tinker and make things. Larry enjoyed hunting and working on the farm raising rabbits and goats. Charlotte said that Larry kept her laughing for sixty years. He was such a character and he loved picking on and teasing people. He enjoyed playing cards, reading the bible, and watching Shepherd's Chapel and old westerns. Above all else, Larry enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who love him dearly. Surviving are his wife, Charlotte, the love of his life for 60 years; son, Wade Flanders and his wife, Wanda; son-in-law, Larry Barton; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; siblings: Sharon Jones, Dixie (Dave) Bianchi, Rita (Gary) Rodgers, Rick (Lori) Flanders, and Debbie (Rick) Brown; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Mildred Flanders; daughter, Brenda Barton; and brother, Terry (Ruby) Flanders. Celebration of Life
