Larry Burton DeVore was born June 1, 1946 to Rex Elwood Devore and Florence Irene Tuttle DeVore in Corydon, Iowa. Larry grew up on the farm near Humeston where he helped his dad raise chickens and turkeys. He loved farm work and helped many neighbors. Larry also showed sheep in 4-H. He attended school in the Cambria, Humeston, and Corydon areas until his freshman year when he attended Chariton High School the class of 1965. He met a cute girl who worked at the A&W. They started dating and a year later Larry married Karen Culver on August 4, 1967. They were blessed with 5 children.

After working various farm jobs he worked for Gillaspy Salvage and Gillaspy Tractor Sales for several years. He then went to South Central Coop in Lacona for 14 years and started a salvage yard and repair shop at his home. He also enjoyed driving a school bus for Southeast Warren Schools. He finished his working career with Johnson Machine Works where he worked 15 years before retiring in 2010.

Larry always enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to deer hunt, especially with his grandchildren. He also liked hunting squirrel and rabbit and just enjoying all the wildlife seen right outside his home near Oakley. There are many stories from many years of snowmobiling with his friends and family. He loved to have fun with his family. They spent a lot of time camping, boating, and skiing. His kids were basically raised in the boat and he taught everyone to water-ski. After retiring he loved helping Karen with her garden flowers and he enjoyed growing many vegetables and taking care of the yard. He loved his Ford tractors and collected 8N’s and 9N’s, and restored an 8N that he rode in many parades.

Larry was preceded in death by his son, Larry Stephen DeVore; his parents, Rex and Florence DeVore; sister, Vicki DeVore Jones; nephew, Jeremy DeVore; and step-sisters, Sandy Paige Briggs and Linda Paige Williams Celander.
