Funeral services for Larry Coffman, 67 of Chariton, will be Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Columbia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Lucas County 4-H. Larry Bernard Coffman was born October 25, 1948 to Bernard and Donna Coffman in Des Moines, Iowa. Larry was one of two sons born to the couple. He grew up in Chariton and graduated with the Chariton High School class of 1966. Larry continued his education at Iowa State University where he studied education and agriculture. Larry was united in marriage to Linda Mullins in 1968. The couple was blessed with four children: Garth, Judd, Shae, and Maddie. They raised their family near Chariton. Over the years, Larry worked hard as both a farmer and truck driver for Hy-Vee. Larry was the sixth driver in the history of the company to become a 1,000,000-mile driver. He set the record in October of 1997. Larry retired from Hy-Vee in 2010. He enjoyed farming and driving around to check on his fields. He made some lifelong friends in the farming community. Outside of work and time spent with family, Larry enjoyed coyote and coon hunting, watching sports (especially football), going on motorcycle rides, volunteering as a 4-H leader, and being active in his church. Larry was soft-hearted and always did what he could to help family and friends. He was a family man and his children and grandchildren meant the world to him. He will be greatly missed by so many. Larry passed away October 2, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda in 2008; and his father, Bernard Coffman. He will be greatly missed by his mother, Donna Jean (Coffman) Cox; children: Garth Coffman and his children: Greer and Zoe, Judd (Pam) Coffman and their children: Brady and Molly, Shae (Justin) Olson and their son, Reid; and Maddie (Andrew) Piittmann; his girlfriend, Carol Ashburn; along with brother, Gary Coffman; mother-in-law, Mary Mullins; in-laws, Elaine (Gary) Harper and Steve (Nancy Lepic) Mullins; nieces, Emily Drake and Lexi Harper; and many relatives and friends.
