Ken E. Gass

A Mass of Christian Burial for Kenneth Edward Gass, 76, of Ankeny will be held Saturday, February 8th, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Melcher-Dallas. Burial will be at the Bauer Cemetery following the service. Family will receive friends at the church on Friday evening, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service starting at 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be made in care of Ken's family. Kenneth Edward Gass was born March 7, 1943 to Herbert and Geneva Gass at their home in Lacona, Iowa. Ken was one of nine children born to the couple. He grew up alongside his siblings in Bauer, Iowa and attended Bauer Catholic School. After graduation, Ken served in the National Guard. Ken was united in marriage to Katherine Sommar. The couple was blessed with two sons, Mark and Paul. Ken was a loving father and was always there for his boys. He worked hard to support his family and put in thirty-eight years with John Deere Des Moines Works before retiring. Ken moved to Ankeny in 1982. He enjoyed living close to his son, Mark, and visited him and his family every day. Ken was a proud grandfather to seven wonderful grandchildren and enjoyed every moment spent with them. He will be dearly missed. Ken passed away February 4, 2020 at the age of 76. He is survived by his sons, Mark (Michelle) Gass and Paul (Jamie) Gass; grandchildren: Treylee, Kyra, Emma, Isabella, Kayla, Morgan, and Caiden; siblings: John (Mary) Gass, Carol Nicholson, Keith (Margaret) Gass, Anne Bowers, Joe (Linda) Gass, Frank (Cheryl) Gass, and Tom Gass; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
