Johnny Jay Buban, age 88, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away on Monday, June 7, 2021, at West Ridge Specialty Care in Knoxville.
John’s wishes were to be cremated and a private family service with military honors for John will be held at Graceland Cemetery of Knoxville at a later date.
Johnny was born on August 31, 1932, in Appanoose County, Iowa, the middle child of John and Mildred (Padavich) Buban. John grew up in Brazil and Centerville and graduated from Centerville High School. After graduation John worked for a short time at John Deere Company in Ottumwa before he served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952, during the Korean War.
On May 31, 1952, in Moravia, Iowa, John was united in marriage to Virginia Pearl Hixenbaugh. John and Virginia were blessed with 69 years of marriage and two children: Dana and Greg.
After John served in the United Sates Army he went to work for a short time with John Deere before truck driving. For many years John worked at the V.A. Hospital in Knoxville, and he worked home construction in Knoxville. John also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
John is survived by his wife Virginia Buban of Knoxville; their two children, Dana Noon and her husband Dale of Des Moines and Greg Buban and his wife Sue of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Scott John Noon (Heather), Kylie Moore (Ronnie), Austin Buban (Allante), and Shannon Buban (Orlando); and four great-grandchildren, Devin, Rachel, Isabel, and Natalie; and one brother Jimmy Buban of Texas.
John is preceded in death by his parents John and Mildred and his sister Kathryn Houser.
The Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville is assisting Johnny’s family with services.
