John Paul Sherwood

John Paul Sherwood, age 48, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at West Ridge Specialty Care in Knoxville.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 16, 2020 beginning at 2:00 P.M. at the Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville. John’s family will be present to greet friends and relatives from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville, with Pastor Brent Hanna officiating. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville.
John Paul Sherwood was born on March 12, 1971 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Paul K. and Linda Arlene (Hancock) Sherwood. John was raised on a farm north of Knoxville and he attended grade school in Knoxville and then attended and graduated from Ruby Van Meter in Des Moines, Iowa. While in school John was part of the Bell Choir and swam the back stroke for the school swim team, which participated in the Special Olympics. During high school John was a Page at the State of Iowa Legislature.
John worked at Godfather’s Pizza in Knoxville and later helped his father on the farm. John liked caring of the livestock, driving tractors and especially his dog Sweetie. He also liked fishing and camping with his mother and stepfather. John always caught the most fish.
John especially enjoyed tractors and went on many tractor rides, including the W.H.O. Ride and the Red Rock Thrashers. John’s tractor had two seats so his father and he could ride together. He was a past Grand Marshall on the W.M.T. Tractor Ride. John also liked tractor pulling and won many contests including first place at the 2010 and the 2012 Iowa State Fair.
John also enjoyed his family, friends and he loved coffee time at McDonalds, going to church, country music, especially the Oakridge Boys, WWE, and the Dukes of Hazzard.
John is survived by his father, Paul Sherwood of Knoxville; mother and stepfather, Linda and Tom Six of Knoxville; sister, Jill Sheesley (Joseph), New Braunfels, TX; step-brother, Daryl Six (Brenda), Frankfort, KY; four nieces and nephews, Trenton, Lauren, Ashlyn, and Evan; great-niece, Faith; aunt, Merna Bishop, aunt, Connie Buttle (Kelly), aunt Sandy Reed (Larry); special friend, Vicky Alexander; all of his friends at McDonald’s; many cousins; and his dog, Sweetie.
John is preceded in death by his grandparents, Kermit and Mable Sherwood, and Oran and Viola Hancock; brother, Robert Brian Sherwood in infancy; stepsister, Diana Mason; aunt, Dolores Becker; and uncle, Lloyd Becker.
