John Warren Scott, 93, of Knoxville, Iowa died on December 14, 2020. A family only funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville. Burial with military honors will follow at Graceland Cemetery.
John was born on October 16, 1927 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Harry Wilfred and Joyce Beatrice (Johnson) Scott. He graduated from Grinnell High School in 1945, served with the United States Navy and Naval Reserve from 1946 through 1987, retiring as Chief Petty Officer with a total of 41 years of service. He was employed at the Knoxville and Des Moines Veterans Administration Medical Centers from 1948 until 1985, retiring as Assistant Chief, Supply Service.
John was united in marriage to Frances Darlene Rowley on March 9, 1952 in Knoxville. To this union was born Jeffrey Warren Scott and Lori Jean Scott.
John was an active member of the Knoxville First United Methodist Church, having served on several committees. He was also a member of NARFE (National Active and Retired Federal Employees), past president, secretary/editor of the Iowa Edsel Club, a member of the International Edsel Club, and American Legion.
He is survived by his son, Jeff Scott and wife, Jill, of Fayette, Iowa; daughter, Lori and husband, John Ahern, of West Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren, David Scott and wife Andrea, Susan Scott, and Lisa Scott Thang and her husband, San Win; three great-granddaughters, Kathryn Elizabeth, Amelia Rose Scott, and Elizabeth Darlene Thang; two great-grandsons, Joshua David Thang and Daniel Jackson Scott; two step-grandchildren, Jeff Ahern and wife Sheri, of Grimes, Iowa; Stacey and husband, Samuel Vis, of Grand Junction, Colorado; also five step great-grandchildren, Aiden and Jackson Ahern, and Addison, Kennedy, and Kadence Vis.
John was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Dale, Wallace, and Gordon Scott; and wife, Darlene.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
