John Edward Rouse passed away on March 27, 2021 at Mercy Hospital of complications from surgery. Services will be held Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 11:00 am at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Family will be present to meet with friends at 10:00 am until 11:00 am prior to the service. . John was born on October 1, 1935 to Edward and Mabel (Bass) Rouse. He graduated from Lucas High school in 1954. After graduation, John and his best friend Larry Siglin joined the Army together. After getting out of the Army, he married his high school sweetheart, Beth JoAnn Ginn, on January 26, 1957 and together they had 3 children (Julie, John, and Janet). In December of 1957, he graduated from Barber School and barbered for 60 years. He also owned and operated several local businesses with his wife throughout the years. These included the Charitone Hotel, Chariton Movie Theater, Captains Lounge, Sportman's Bar, Store Tap, and Rouse & Hickman Concrete. He also ran John's Pawn Shop for several years. He enjoyed flipping houses, buying and selling guns, collecting coins, antiquing, going to the casino with his wife and spending time with his lifelong friends, Larry and Rita Siglin. His favorite pastime was visiting with his many friends at his Barber Shop. The thing he was most proud of was his daughters, grandkids, and great grandkids. He would do anything for his family. Behind his rough exterior, he was the most generous Dad and Pappy. He is survived by his two daughters: Julie (Rusty) Stansbery and Janet Rouse (Ed Jordan); six grandkids: Jacob (Angie) Shriver, Cameron Shriver (Casey Peasley), Maggie Stansbery (Moe Nichols), Sam Shriver, Tracy (Casey) Shanks, and Ross (Samantha) Stansbery; seven great grandkids: Grant, Alia (Brett), Brenna, Lola, Gwen, Maeve, and Vivie with one great great grandkid on the way; one sister-in-law, Margaret Bayer; and many special nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his many friends and customers. He is proceeded in death by his wife Beth in 2007; his son, John in 1980; his mother and father; and his siblings: Mike (Charlotte) Rouse and Barbara (Clifford) Gillman. Memorial donations may be made to the Lucas County Veterans Memorial Park. Visitation
