Joann Dixson

Services for Joann Dixson, 77 of Lucas, will be Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Interment will follow at the Chariton Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday, July 29, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joann was a founding member of the John L. Lewis Museum and volunteered countless hours there. She spent many years putting the John L Lewis Labor Day Parade together.

Memorials may be made to the John L. Lewis Museum in Lucas, Iowa.

Joann was born on March 21, 1945, to Pat and Pauline “Griffin” O’Connor in Chariton, Iowa, at the Yocom Hospital. She grew up in Melrose, Iowa. She attended a Catholic elementary school in Melrose, Iowa and then went to high school in Albia, Iowa where she graduated in 1963. She graduated with her cosmetology license in 1964 and opened her salon in their home in 1974 where she styled hair until February 24th this year. She had many clients over the years that became her good friends. She worked at the Ellis Greenhouse in Lucas for many years in the spring and enjoyed working alongside Bonnie.

She met Junior Dixson in 1964, and the couple married January 1, 1968. To this union, they were blessed with a son, RJ.

She farmed along with her husband for many years. She kept the home and farm running while Junior was working away in the construction business.

She enjoyed cross stitching, crocheting, knitting, and quilting. She taught many how to do this to. She had the patience of a saint.

Joann had a big heart, was very giving, and was just a beautiful person inside and out. The love for her family was such a gift. She was a caretaker for her parents and in-laws and a best friend to her niece Roxie, and to many other members of her family. She was always such a trooper putting up with Junior and RJ. Her Christmas gifts from them were always car parts.

Joann passed away July 26, 2022. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Junior Dixson; son, RJ (Karen) Dixson; grandsons, Connor and Cody; nieces and nephews: Roxie (Blaine) Larson, Tina (Jack) Mandeville, and Earl Lamb; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
