Joan Marie Luedtke-Elliott

Joan Marie Luedtke-Elliott, 83, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2019 at Corydon Specialty Care in Corydon, IA. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 10 am at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton, IA followed by a memorial service at 11 am. Following the service, burial will be in the Salem Cemetery, rural Russell IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Corydon Specialty Care Activities Fund. Joan was born December 3, 1936 in Muscatine, IA to Albert and Helen (Ogilvie) Marty. She graduated from Muscatine High School in 1954. On January 24, 1954 she was united in marriage to Dean Ivan Henke at the First Presbyterian Church in Muscatine, IA. They were blessed with two children, David and Diane. Dean died in an accident on their farm, in Muscatine County, on July 30, 1957. On October 4, 1958 she married Orville Luedtke, who then adopted David and Diane. Together they had two sons, Brian and Kevin. Joan was remarried to Bill Elliott on June 18, 1988 in Indianola, IA. Joan worked as a telephone operator out of high school and helped on the family farm in West Liberty and Chariton. She retired from the IA Department of Revenue in Des Moines and lived in Indianola during her later years. Family was her greatest love and she absolutely cherished the time with her grandchildren. Joan was a wonderful cook and her chicken and rice or lasagna were always favorites. She enjoyed square dancing and shopping, especially at Younkers. She will be remembered for her smile, laugh and looking beautiful. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Diane (Ross) Connelly of Kennebunk, ME; sons: David (Janet) Luedtke of Lone Tree, IA; Brian (Allison) Luedtke of Medina, MN; and Kevin (Lori) Luedtke of Chariton, IA. Twelve grandchildren: Aaron, Ryan, Ross, Millie, Joey, Max, Jason, Ty Luedtke; Jamie (Jarod) Temple; Chris (Sophie), Mark and Kevin Connelly. Three great-grandchildren: Kinslee Luedtke; Grace and Alex Connelly. Sister Janice (Denny) Lange of Muscatine IA along with many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dean Henke, infant daughter Kim Marie Luedtke, granddaughter Jessica Luedtke; brother and sister-in-law Jerry (Gen) Marty.
