Jo Anne (Morgan) Perry, of Chariton, Iowa, and formerly of Gravity and Clarinda, Iowa, passed away at the Chariton Nursing and Rehab Center on June 7, 2020. Jo Anne had been at the nursing home since May 8, 2014 with Alzhiemer's. Services will be held June 11, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton, Iowa. Family will receive prior to the service, from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Her final resting place will be at the Highland Cemetery in Eddyville, Iowa. The service can be viewed on the Pierschbacher Funeral Home Facebook Page at 2:00 p.m. Jo Anne was born in the family farm house northwest of Gravity. She had two older brothers, Richard and Norman, and a younger sister, Sharon. She went to country school through eighth grade. Jo Anne played basketball and was in many plays at Gravity High School. She played the clarinet in band and in 1956, she was the Gravity Band Queen at Clarinda Band Day. Jo Anne's family moved to Clarinda in January 0f 1958, when she was a senior. After graduating in May at Clarinda, she married Lavern Hughes from Bedford in August of 1958. They lost a baby at birth, Nancy Ann Hughes in 1961. They later divorced. Jo Anne worked all her life, many years as a secretary at Hy-Vee Headquarters in Chariton. Jo Anne married Marvin Perry of Chariton on February 11, 1969. They had forty six years of marriage before his passing on January 5, 2016. They enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals play baseball. They camped every August at the Iowa State Fair and had many friends that they looked forward to seeing each year. They had a time share in Hawaii and loved going there in February every year. Many family members joined them. Jo Anne sold Avon for many years and enjoyed visiting with the people and children. Jo Anne was baptized at the Christian Church in Gravity. She was President of the Executive Board of Christian Women's Fellowship at the First Christian Church in Chariton from 1967 to 1968 with Pastor Eldon Jandebeur. Jo Anne always knew the Lord! She had this saying, "Whoever Will Be, Will Be!" Preceding Jo Anne in death were her husband, Marvin Perry; infant daughter, Nancy Ann Hughes; parents, Leland and Beulah Morgan; brothers, Richard and Norman Morgan; brother-in-law, Ed Smith; and sister-in-law, Mary Morgan. Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Sharon Smith of Clarinda, Iowa; sister-in-law, Kathryn Morgan of Smith Center, Kansas; step-son, Rodney (Janice Clark) Perry of Albia, Iowa; step-daughter, Cynthia Perry of Brenham, Texas; step-grandsons, Logan and Lucas Custer; step-great granddaughter; sister-in-law, Linda (Phil) Bonnett of Eddyville, Iowa; along with nephews, nieces, cousins, and many friends.
