Jimmie Etter

May 31, 1953 — March 20, 2023

Knoxville

It is with great sadness that the Etter family announces the passing of Jimmie Linn Etter, who died on March 20, 2023, at the age of 69. Jim was born on May 31, 1953, to Robert and Minnie Loo Etter. Jim attended Newton High School, graduating in 1971.

Jim spent 18 years working for Maytag Dairy Farms in Newton and another 10 years with Hewitt’s Tire & Service Center in Monroe, Iowa. Jim married Cindy Mecham on June 20th, 1998 in Knoxville, Iowa where they resided.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Cindy, who stood by his side throughout their many years of marriage. He is also survived by three sons: Gary Etter (Kristi) of Florissant, Colorado, Joe Etter (Kandi) of Omaha, Nebraska, and Ryan Etter (Robin) of Vernal, Utah, who will miss him dearly. He is also survived by two brothers, Bobby Etter (Becky) of Newton and Tim Etter of Kellogg, as well as dozens of nieces and nephews. In addition, Jim leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 5 great-children, who were a great source of joy and pride for him.

Jim loved working on cars and riding motorcycles. He was the life of the party, always laughing, always smiling. As an avid outdoorsman, he had a passion for fishing and spent many weekends on the water, casting his line and enjoying the peace and quiet.

Jim's family and friends will always remember him as a larger-than-life man who would do anything for those he loved. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his legacy will live on through his family and the many lives he touched throughout his lifetime.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Steve and Bill Etter.

Per Jim’s wishes, no services will be held, but a celebration of Jim's life will be planned for the summer at the Monkey House in Kellogg. His family invites all those who knew and loved him to attend and pay their respects. Memorials may be made in care of the family.

Rest in peace, Jim. You will be forever missed.
