Wavern James “Jim” Freeman was born on July 14, 1931, to Everett and Elizabeth (Burke) Freeman in Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended school in Indianapolis until he went into the Air Force.
Jim spent almost 25 years in the Air Force. It was there that he got his GED and other degrees. He was very proud of his accomplishments while serving as a Tech Sergeant, keeping track of satellites among other duties.
Jim was united in marriage to June Freeman on May 4, 1952, in Wichita Falls, Texas. To this union, they were blessed with three children: Terry, Deborah, and Robert. Due to his career in the Air Force, the family moved to many different states.
He was a great storyteller, and he thoroughly enjoyed telling his children and grandchildren about his days in the Air Force. He could be a bit ornery as well, as they found out through some of those stories.
Jim loved the Iowa Hawkeyes. He once received some slippers that were Iowa State. The look on his face when he opened them was priceless. As you may have guessed, he refused to wear those slippers.
Along with his service in the Air Force, Jim drove the bus for the Chariton School District and owned and operated a couple of bakeries in Chariton and Osceola. He loved to work and stay busy, but when he had time, he enjoyed going fishing or listening to some good ole bluegrass music.
Jim will be missed by his children: Terry (Betty) Freeman of Arizona, Deborah (James) Ramsey of Osceola, Iowa, and Robert (Gerta) Freeman of Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, June and siblings: John Francis, Thomas Edward, Eileen Rita, Norma Jean, Dorothy Louise, Shirley Ann, and Everett William.
