James Allen Rogers was born July 18, 1954 in Melcher, Iowa to Elmer and Mary Ferguson Rogers. He grew up in Melcher-Dallas and graduated Melcher-Dallas High School in 1973. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Kristi Roberts, on July 7, 1973 at 7:00 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Melcher. Jim and Kristi always thought it was good luck to be married on 7/7/73 at 7.
The couple was blessed with two children: Erin and Allen. Family was the most important part of Jim’s life. He loved going to all of his children’s events and activities. Jim was very happy when Erin married Mike and Allen married Teresa and he became a Grandpa to six grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Allison, Bradley, Jon, Harper, and Holt. He treasured them with his whole heart.
Everyone who knows Jim will remember his great sense of humor and the many stories, jokes, and pranks he pulled on his family and friends. He had a way of making everyone laugh in his presence. Jim and Kristi loved to camp and travel, and in his younger years he rarely missed a race at Knoxville. He loved passing the time and catching up on things with his friends.
Jim began working at Firestone in 1973 right out of high school. He was a professional tire builder who cared about the quality of his work and the products he made. There was never a tire with defects when his hands built it. He worked there for 38 years until he was forced to retire when he was diagnosed with cancer in 2011. Jim courageously and gracefully fought the cancer for over 10 years. He was a strong man who loved his family.
Jim passed away on May 14, 2021 at the age of 66 years. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Kristi; children: Erin (Mike) Engle and Allen (Teresa) Rogers; grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Allison, Bradley, Jon, Harper, and Holt; siblings: Bob Rogers, Roy (Phyllis) Rogers, Connie Crawford, Ron (Marcia) Rogers, and Christine Griffith; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents: Elmer and Mary; sister, Carolyn Delk; and an infant brother, John Rogers.
