Jerry Lee Slycord, age 77, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away at his home on March 11, 2024, after a long battle with lung cancer. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Knoxville. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Following burial, a luncheon will be held at the Knoxville Skate Pit from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Jerry's family would like donations to be made to Vickie.
Jerry was born on October 31, 1946, in rural Knoxville, Iowa, the son of Cornie and Dorothy (Hall) Slycord. He was the oldest of 6 children and grew up on the family farm with his siblings, Connie, Pamela, Roger, Dave, and Dennis. Jerry always loved the outdoors. He was also a talented craftsman. Jerry enjoyed working for himself and started Slycord Mobile Home Service. He then worked as a farmhand for Rich Goff and was also a previous co-owner of Dingus for several years. Jerry’s final job before retirement was working for Ronnie Swan doing odd jobs.
Jerry loved camping and boating. They would often go from campground to campground all summer long and wouldn’t come home until the season was over. Jerry was an avid fan of racing, from Sprint cars to NASCAR. He had a great sense of humor and would never complain. Jerry was deeply loved and will be forever missed.
Those left to cherish his memory include his friend/love of his life, and companion of 30 years, Vickie; daughter, Tosha Van Rees (Jon Rowen); grandchildren, Paige (Cadin) Pecinovsky, Grant Van Rees, Addy Van Rees, and Riley Rowen. He is also survived by his siblings: Pamela Slycord, Roger Slycord, Dave Slycord, and Dennis (Kelly) Slycord.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Connie Miller, and brother Larry Slycord.
