Janis Lynn Boyd

Janis Lynn Boyd passed away December 17, 2022, at the age of 79 years 3 months and 5 days. A celebration of life gathering will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2022, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas. A graveside service will be held at the Fairview Cemetery on Wednesday, December 28^th, at 11:00 a.m.

Memorials in Janis’ name may be made for Breast Cancer Awareness, through the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Janis was born September 12, 1943, in Omaha, Nebraska to Walter and Vivian Swanson Gleason. And because she was born in Nebraska, she was a bit of a Big Red fan. She grew up on the south side of Des Moines and attended Lincoln High School and graduated from Tech in 1961.

While working at Metro Ford, she met a co-worker named Bob Boyd. They were married May 17, 1978, and since they both worked at Metro, her wedding gift was a new Thunderbird. After moving to Melcher-Dallas in 1981, she worked at the Office Supplier in Knoxville and then for Smith Fertilizer and Grain in the accounting department until retiring. Many will remember her famous pies, apple was the family’s favorite. She set up a stand at Pierce’s Pumpkin Patch on the Festival Day working with JoAnn Hoch, making, and selling over 200 pies. Janis enjoyed decorating her home for every occasion, but Christmas time was a favorite with many, many trees placed throughout her home. She and Bob loved going on trips to Branson.

Janis loved being a mother to her two boys (who claim to be perfect angels) and to her daughter, Debbie. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a great joy to her as well.

Janis will be greatly missed by her husband, Bob Boyd; children: Marty Lutz, Tim Lutz, and Debbie Knupp; 8 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Walter and Vivian Gleason; and a brother, John Gleason.
