Services for Janice Woods, 85, of Chariton, Iowa will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service at the Chariton Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Janice’s name to the Homestead Assisted Living Activity Fund.
Marjorie Janice Snuggs was born on November 28, 1937, to Floyd and Martha Snuggs in Lacona, IA. “Janice” as she liked to be called graduated from Humeston High School in 1956. She was united in marriage to Roger Lee Woods of Garden Grove, Iowa. To this union, six children were born – Brenda (Bruce) Mullen of Chariton, IA, Roger Lee (Kelly) Woods, Bonnie Woods of Kansas City, MO, Mark Woods of Chariton, IA, Jennie (Scott) Fisher of Robins, IA, and Melissa Woods of Chariton, IA.
The family relocated to a farm in Norwood, IA in 1963. While on the farm, Janice and Roger graciously welcomed people in need to their home for brief stays. They welcomed Shaunee Arnold into foster care when she was in junior high, and she became part of our family.
Janice worked at Yocom Hospital then Midwest Heritage for 38 years. During this time, she also dabbled in hobbies – having parties and selling Mary Kay and Home Interiors. After retirement from the bank, she worked for Jill at Piper’s making homemade candies, including their famous turtles – “pinching them” as she referred to it. She became fondly known as “the turtle lady” in town.
Preceding her in death is her husband of 46 years, Roger Lee Woods, son Roger Lee Jr., granddaughter Jaelyn Macie Jo See, and grandson Conner John Altenhofen.
She leaves behind many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving grandchildren are Erika (Jeff) Schieber, Heather Kirkland, Stacey (Alex) Rasmussen, Shelley (Roger) Sapper, Michelle (Brian) Stephens, Brandy (Eric) Cackler, Misty Henderson, Holly Woods, Cameron (Cassie) Fisher, Meagan (Chris) Davis, Andrew (Meagan) Diebold, Brendon (Zoey) Woods, Marcus Woods, and Miken See.
Great grandchildren are Brody, Ty, Owen, Kendall, Aislyn, Mila, Liam, Aria, Greyson, Malia, Cade, Maddie, and Quincy.
