Family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas. On Monday, January 15, 2018, our dear mom, Janice T. McCullough, left her earthly home and started her journey to Heaven where her soul will live on in love and peace for eternity. The Bible reads that mom will lead down the paths of righteousness, she will have no fear, for God will be with her the whole time, giving her comfort and making her journey beautiful and joyous. Mom was welcomed with open arms by the love of her life, her husband of 56 years, James "Buck" McCullough; her second daughter, Cheryl Ann Nelson; and infant grandson, Wade James Jones. Mom passed away in the comfort of her own home, silent and peacefully with her three daughters at her side. On April 18, 1933, the eighth child of nine, was born to Glenn and Flossie (Nieswender) Baker on a farm located southeast of Lacona, Iowa. Mom's parents and siblings have all passed leaving Mom the last of her maternal family. Her siblings were: Wanda Wilson, Eulala (Orbie) Burson, Obyr (Alice) Baker, Eloise (Bob) Bauer, Deo Baker, Colletta (Ed) Christianson, Orlo (Dwayla) Baker, and Wendell (Dee) Baker. Mom and Dad were united in marriage on June 3, 1951. Mom was a housewife and mother until she was employed at the Melcher-Dallas Elementary School as a cook. During the 27 years of employment, she watched two daughters and her two grandsons start in kindergarten through the 6th grade, serving them their lunch every day. Mom was a hard worker, and at that time, the kitchen work was extremely hard. They didn't just serve the food, but cooked and baked it also. Then home from work to start in on the daily home requirements. Our home was always in order, meals were ready at a certain times, family to take care of, Mom was just a truly remarkable woman. Our mom was a strong Christian who was the sturdy foundation to our family. Mom's strong and dedicated faith in our Lord all mighty was to be admired. Her love and faith was never questionable. The love she gave to her husband and four daughters were all different. We could feel the love that she had in her heart and that she shared with each one in her own way. Mom never complained about all the sacrifices that she made to see to the needs of her family. Our needs were always met no matter what she had to do to get them accomplished. Mom knew she was loved, that love was returned to her as well. The love that was shared was a very important part of our family life style. Her rewards for the love she gave and shared are to be honored and praised, a beautiful reflection of her life. Those left to mourn Mom's passing, and remembering special times that were shared, are her oldest daughter, Brenda Vanagas; her third daughter, Jamie (Juan) Harrison; her youngest daughter, Jennifer (Mike) Jones; and son-in-law, Barry Nelson; grandson, Jarad (Katie Marie) Nelson and their 9 day old son, Thomas Vincent; grandson, Justin (Paige) Nelson and their children: Baya Marie, Sawyer Ann, and Jase Wayne; grandson, Derien Jones; and grandson, Kevin Jones. Mom was very proud of her family. She loved watching all of her grandsons play sports, especially baseball. She was their number one fan. She will be genuinely missed by all who knew her, which included a large host of treasured friends and neighbors. Some day we all will be reunited, what a joyous reunion that will be. By the family's wishes, all memorial donations will be given to the Melcher-Dallas Fire and Rescue Department. Cemetery Details Mt. Zion Cemetery Lacona, IA
