Janet L. Petty

Janet Petty, age 73, passed away peacefully in her sleep in West Des Moines on March 1^st, 2023. 

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Grace Baptist Church at 112 County Line Road, Des Moines, IA.  Interment will be at Corydon Cemetery.  Memorials can be made at the Church.  

Janet Louise (Phillips) Petty was born May 31, 1949 to Wayne and Elverda (Rush) Phillips.  She grew up in Corydon on the family farm.  Janet graduated in 1967 from Wayne High School.  After high school, she went to college in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. 

Janet was blessed with two daughters, Ruth and Janel.  Her daughters have fond memories of family picnics at the Reservoir in Corydon. 

Janet enjoyed NASCAR races with her Dad and loved attending Sunday services with her family at First Baptist Church in Corydon.  

Janet relocated her family to Des Moines where she worked for Ruan in Accounts Payable from 1985 to 2014.  After 28 years with the company, she retired.   

Janet was strong in her faith and was a member of Grace Baptist Church.   

Janet will be deeply missed by her daughters Ruth Alison (Devon) Weiss and Janel (Lesley) Ballard, grandchildren Phillip Stout, Jacob Lawler, Trey Bush, Ethan and Garrett Gorczynski, Nicholas Jennings, and Amelia Weiss. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Wayne and Elverda and granddaughter Kelsie Jo Lawler.
