Howard Dicks

Howard Augustes Dicks, age 94, of Centerville and formerly of Albia, Iowa died Monday November 5, 2007 at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville, Iowa. Howard was born July 19, 1913 in Lockman, Iowa to Artie and Maude (Tyrrel) Dicks. Howard attended Half Way Prairie Elementary School and was a graduate of Albia High School. He married Norma Miller on December 18, 1935. Norma preceded him in death in April of 1978. Howard later married Edna (Stocker) Stouthammer on December 16, 1978. Howard was the bookkeeper for the Merle Dicks feed and grain store, and later the store manager for Western Auto in Albia for several years. Howard was drafted into the Army on March 30th 1944. He severed, as a telegraph operator in World War II in Lompoc, California. After his service Howard returned to Monroe County and farmed with his father. Howard and his brothers operated the Dicks Brothers Painting Company until his retirement. Howard was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, a Master Mason of the Masonic Lodge # 505, and a member of the American Legion, Howard Cessna Post #136. Howard also loved to fish, hunt, paint, and carve wood. Howard is survived by his wife, Edna of Centerville; his children, John (Cheri) Dicks of Albia, Carol Curtis of Albia, Karen (Dan) Stouthammer of Lovilia, and Linda (Gary) McVey of Billings, Montana; three step children, Brenda (Andy) Kausalik of Durango, CA, Dixie Repp of Belle View, WA, and Terry (Sharon) Hershberger of Melrose; and meny grandchildren and great grandchildren. Howard is also survived by one brother, Bernard Dicks of Albia. Howard is preceded in death by his parents, Artie and Maude; one son, Lee Dicks; and three brothers, Cecil LeRoy Dicks, in infancy, Francis Dicks, and Everett Dicks.
