Homer Stanley Hall was born October 28, 1933, in Redfield, South Dakota to Clyde and Jennie (Randall) Hall. The family eventually settled into farming in the Farrar area. While attending Farrar High School (Class of 1951), he met Barbara Stuart. After many times of asking, he finally convinced her to go on a date with him. He was so early to pick her up that she was still choring. As she walked out of the barn, carrying a milking can, he thought, “That lady is for me!” He was right. He married her on March 21, 1954 at the Farrar Methodist Church. This union was blessed with three children: Connie, Steve, and Sandra. While expanding their family, Homer was serving in the United States Army on the Great Lakes near Chicago, before moving back to Iowa to farm in Collins, Maxwell, Baxter, Farrar, and finally moving to their Columbia farm in 1967.

His tinkering and building mind constructed so many inventions and contraptions that made his life on the farm easier and fun. He fixed everything with only used parts so much that Steve didn’t know that you could buy new parts until he started working at McCorkle Hardware. Homer enjoyed flying his Piper Cub two seat airplane so much that he mowed down the hay for an airstrip on their farm.

If you stopped long enough, Homer had a story to share with you. This love of people and faith in God, prompted Homer & Barb to attend Rhema Bible College and then in 1980 to co-found the Living Word Fellowship Church in Knoxville, Iowa with Tom Kirkman and Bill Jenkins, Jr., which he later pastored for a short time.

Homer has connected with people all over the world. In 1983, he started teaching at Miracle Bible College in San Fernando, La Union, Philippines. He trained many new pastors. When the college closed, Homer & Barb established a new ministry. Sowers of the Living Word Ministries has built numerous churches, financially supported pastors, trained new pastors, held children’s vacation bible schools, and much more in the Philippines over the past 30+ years. Papa Hall loved sharing God’s word with his Philippine ministry family.

Homer went to meet Jesus on April 7, 2021 at the age of 87 years. He was preceded in death by his parents: Clyde and Jennie; his son, Steve Hall; and siblings: Cecil Hall, Martha Allen, Doris Pederson, Maebelle Dee, Vivian Warner, and Bertha Gardner.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Barbara; his daughters: Connie (Jeff) Beebout, Sandra (David) Beebout, and daughter-in-law, Coral Hall; eight grandchildren: Eric (Amber) Hall, Lisa (Mike) Willis, Cris (Randy) McKinney, JoElla (Gabe) Belyeu, Wendy (Dave) Krambeck, Ryan (Kimberly) Beebout, Lacy (Cristian) Garcia, and Alex Hall; 17 great grandchildren; along with the Philippine ministry family, and many relatives and friends.
