Helen Louise Rush was born on September 30, 1936 at Winfield, Iowa. She was the fourth of nine children born to H. Dwight and Laura Mathews. She graduated from Winfeld High School class of 1954. She was active in school and played the accordion. After high school she worked at American Mutual Life Insurance Company in Des Moines. Helen met Warren Ethan Rush, Sr. and on August 24, 1958 they were united in marriage. To this union four children were born: Norma Louise, Warren Ethan, Jr., Sandra Rae, and Bob Dwight. Helen worked alongside her husband running a dairy farm for many years. She was instrumental in handling the finances and kept the farmstead running smoothly. Helen was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2011. Her loving husband of 63 years was able to take care of her in their rural home for several years. In the Spring of 2021, her health rapidly declined and she passed away on March 26, 2021 at West Ridge Nursing home, at the age of 85. Those left to cherish her memory are her faithful husband, Warren and their four children: Norma Rush and her wife Vickie Conner of Derby Warren Rush, Jr. and fiancée Lorie Kane of Prole and his two children: Justin Rush Jared Rush Sandra Rush of Osceola and her three children: Nicole Gaughan Shane Gaughan Jennifer Sedgwick and husband Mike and their children Wyatt and Mason Bob Rush and his wife Misty of Manly and their three children: Jessica Rush and fiancée Walker Tollefson and her daughter Paizley Jacklynn Rush and fiancée Cain Lugar and their son Legend Jordann Rush Helen is also survived by her siblings Roy Mathews, Ralph Mathews, Leslie Mathews, David Mathews, and Raymond Mathews. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, and siblings Harold Mathews, Keith Mathews, and Darlene (Mathews) Felton. Helen loved living on the farm and was a very hard worker. She was active in their Neighborhood Club and getting together with the ladies once a month to work on a job and catch up on the happenings in the neighborhood. She loved her chickens and having the grandkids gather eggs. She also loved animals and especially her pet cats and dogs. Helen did a lot of gardening, canning, baking and cooking. The family will especially miss her homemade pies. Helen loved her family and being together, especially her grandkids. The family will hold a graveside service on Tuesday March 30 at 11 am where Helen will be laid to rest at Leon Cemetery.
