Harris Kuiper a farmer, had few interests outside of the farm, although he did take time to go fishing and enjoyed gardening when there was not something pressing to be done at the farm. He was practical and thoughtful. Everything was studied and researched before implementing on his farm. He had files full of articles and clippings that could be used to improve the operation. He was meticulous with record keeping, his business plan, and enjoyed documenting improvements to the farm.

Although we all knew he was a successful farmer, he was modest and not one to boast. Harris’ goal was to continue to improve the land, his farming practices, and was only competitive with himself, looking to beat his best yields or better yet, improve the bottom line.

Born in Oskaloosa and raised in the Pella area, he graduated from Pella High School in 1963. Married to Margie Johnston in 1976, they were blessed with two daughters: Andrea and Jana; of which he was immensely proud. With a quiet strength he raised and loved his family.

Harris passed away on his birthday, March 20, 2022 at the age of 77 years. Harris is survived by his wife of 45 years, Margie; daughters, Andrea (Ryan) Lundy and Jana (Shawn) Murphy; grandchildren: Heston Irving, Cael Irving, Carson Lundy, Shawnee Murphy, and 2 step-grandsons; siblings, Loren (Anita) Kuiper and Barb (Jim) Braafhart; in-laws: Arden Johnston, Russ Johnston, Dwight (Ruth) Johnston, Charlie Johnston, and Maureen Rank; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Harris was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Marjorie Kuiper, and parents-in-law, Maurice and Ada Johnston.
