Harold "Jack" Anderson

June 27, 1932 — December 1, 2021

Harold “Jack” Anderson, 89, of Dallas, passed away on December 1, 2021, at Mercy One in Des Moines. A Celebration of Life for Jack will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to later honor Jack.

Harold “Jack” Anderson was born on June 27, 1932, to Charles and Maggie Harp Anderson in Chariton. He grew up in Melcher and graduated from Melcher High School with the Class of 1951. He entered the Army in 1952.

On July 10, 1953, Harold was united in marriage to Betty Watkins in Knoxville, Iowa. They lived in California until December 1954 while he finished his military service. They then moved to Carlisle, Iowa where they raised their five children: Linda, Sherry, Barb, Ronald, and Teresa. They were long time members of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Carlisle.

Harold delivered for Gamble-Robinson until they closed. He continued to deliver for Continental-Hoxie. They eventually became Sysco Foods and he delivered for 3 years before retirement. Once he retired, they moved south of Chariton and enjoyed having a large pick-your own strawberry patch. He worked part time during this time at Fielding Funeral Home as a Funeral Director Assistant for several years. The couple moved to Dallas, and he spent over 20 years operating his fruit stand on Hwy 14 south of the racetrack in Knoxville.

Harold loved many things in his life, but he looked forward to wintering with Betty in Arizona. The couple made many memories in over 20 years in both Green Valley and Tucson. He loved sports, St Louis Cardinals, Green Bay Packers, Iowa Hawkeyes, enjoyed reading western stories and watching western tv shows. He loved fishing, hunting, and trapping. Some of his favorite times were while fishing in Canada.

Harold is dearly missed by his daughters: Linda (Scott Fenn) Anderson of Linden, Sherry (Jeff Marquette) Anderson of Elk River, MN, and Barb (Craig) Damerval of Winfield; 6 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren; siblings: Don (Joyce) Anderson, and Marilyn (Jack) Runnells.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 66 years Betty; son, Ronald Anderson; daughter, Teresa Anderson
