Gwen Sims, 75, of Russell passed away Thursday, April 26, 2007 at the Lucas County Health Center in Chariton. Memorial services will be Tuesday, May 1 at 10:30 AM at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Family will greet friends before the service beginning at 10 AM and after the service at a luncheon at the funeral home. Memorials are requested to the Lucas County Genealogical Society or to Circle of Life Hospice. Condolences for the family may be left at www.pierschbacherfuneralhome.com. Gwen Sims was born May 13, 1931 in Ruthven, Iowa to Verla and Hazel Rogers Martin. She passed away Thursday, April 26, 2007 at the age of 75 at the Lucas County Health Center in Chariton. She graduated from Lovilla High School in 1948 and attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) for 2 years. On July 2, 1949 she married Robert Sims in Hamilton, Iowa. They were blessed with 3 fine children: Steve, Toni, and Mike. Gwen was very family oriented always enjoying family camp outs and family meals. She was a farm girl herself and taught many fine values to her children. Gwen and Bob enjoyed traveling with friends and even took an eventful road trip on their motorcycle. Gwen belonged to the Lucas County Genealogical Society. She devoted much time, research, and road trips with her Vancestors as they researched family histories. She was also a key person in starting the Pioneer Cemetery Association in Lucas County. In addition to her family time and other activities she worked at the Hy-Vee Headquarters ion Chariton for 19 years. Gwen passed away Thursday, April 26th in Chariton. She is survived by her husband Bob; her children: Steve (Linda) Sims of West Des Moines, Toni (Jerry) Vogler of Wichita, KS, and Mike (Vicki) Sims of Russell; 5 grandchildren: Jane, Matt, & Lindsey Vogler, and Michelle Swainey and Bobby Stanford; sisters: Geraldine Ethell of Milo, and Arlene Wilson of Lovilla, sisters-in-law Barbara Bauman and Mary Lou Bingaman, and her Vansisters.
