Gladys Faye Simbro

Gladys Faye Simbro, age 95, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away Monday, July 20, 2020 at WestRidge Specialty Care in Knoxville.
Gladys was born on October 15, 1924 in Prairie City, Iowa, the daughter of John and Millie (Surber) Stoner. She attended Prairie City High School.
Gladys was united in marriage to Eugene Simbro on March 22, 1942. They enjoyed 72 years of marriage before Eugene’s passing on February 14, 2015. They were blessed with three children, Nancy, Kenneth and Millie.
In the late 1950’s Eugene and Gladys settled down on a farm in Marion County. Gladys worked for the Overall Factory in Knoxville for a while; but her greatest joy was being a homemaker and taking caring of her children.
Gladys enjoyed fishing, camping, crocheting, and gambling.
Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, John and Millie Stoner; husband, Eugene Simbro; two daughters, Millie DeJoode and Nancy Mecham; brother, Roy Stoner; and sister, Dorothy Brock.
Those left to cherish Gladys’ memory include her son, Kenneth Simbro (Pam) of Pleasantville; son-in-law, Gordon Mecham; thirteen grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and twelve great-great-grandchildren.
Gladys’ wishes were to be cremated. A private family service will take place on August 8, 2020 at Graceland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Gladys’ memory to her family.
Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville is assisting the family.
