Geraldine M. Baumgarten

Mass of Christian Burial for Geraldine Baumgarten, 89, of Milo will be held Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Milo. Interment will follow at the Belmont Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the church. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Memorials are requested to St. Augustine Catholic Church or the Milo Fire Department. Geraldine Marie Schaefer, daughter of Severine "Seff" and Amelia Dittmer Schaefer was born in Marion County June 3, 1928. As a young girl she moved with her parents to a farm in the Rosemount community where she attended St. Mary's School at Rosemount. She worked as a cashier for Young's Super Value until her marriage to Merle Baumgarten on February 20, 1950. To this union three children were born, Diane, Cheryl, and Kevin. The couple farmed and raised their family 2-½ miles south of Milo. After raising her children, Geraldine worked for Good Samaritan Center in Indianola for 14 years before retiring. She was a member of the St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Milo. She spent many happy hours playing cards, quilting, crocheting, bowling, and dancing in her spare time. Geraldine passed away on September 29, 2017 at the age of 89 years at Windsor Manor in Indianola, where she had lived for the last five years. Preceding her in death were her parents: Seff and Amelia Schaefer; her husband Merle in 2004; siblings: Joseph Schaefer, Richard Schaefer, and Margaret Pershy. Those left to cherish Geraldine's memory include her children: Diane (Don) Robinson, Cheryl (James) Gebhart, and Kevin (Debbie) Baumgarten; sisters: Donna Mae (William) Schumann, Darlene (LeRoy) Schumacher, and Linda (Jerry) Wild; grandchildren: Angela (Shawn) Michael, Mindi Robinson (Kurt Ripperger), Aaron (Miranda) Gebhart, April Baumgarten, and Jackson Baumgarten; 5 great grandchildren: Troy and Tyler Michael, Chloe and Lydia Gebhart, and Kaleb Baumgarten; three sisters-in-law: Janet Schaefer, Cheryl Schaefer, and Peggy Baumgarten; along with many relatives and friends.
