He passed away at the Lucas County Care Center November 27, 2020 at the age of 82 years. Gerald grew up on the family farm North of Chariton and attended elementary school at English #6 rural school graduating from Chariton High School in 1956. After his High School, Gerald honorably served his country in the Iowa National Guard. Gerald was a member of the White Breast Christian Union Church. On May 30, 1957, Gerald and Gayla Arlene Buckalew were married and took up residence in Chariton. He was employed at the local Soil Conservation Service in Chariton. Later he and his brother-in-law Ed Hull ran the Jerry and Ed's Skelly service station located on the Southwest corner of the square. He later worked at the Hy-Vee wholesale warehouse in Chariton, then transferred to the maintenance department of the company. When he retired, he was a member of the executive staff. Although he worked for Hy-Vee he had a passion for fine cars - he owned five Ford convertibles - and proud of them! He loved working on cars and keeping them in top shape. After retiring, he and Gayla sold Nikken products and as distributors of the product traveled for the company. Gayla became unable to be at home and passed away at the Chariton Nursing and Rehab Center on September 13, 2015. Gerald had three close friends (Dean, Richard, and Nick) who helped him in times of sickness and the loss of his wife Gayla. Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Gayla; an infant older brother; his parents Enos and Jennie Pierschbacher; brother Paul Pierschbacher; brother and sister-in-law, Leo (Hilda) Pierschbacher; an eight year old nephew, Todd Langford; a niece, Karla Buckalew; father and mother-in-law, Bud (Arlene) Buckalew; and an infant brother-in-law. Gerald is survived by one brother, George W (Barbara) Pierschbacher; two sisters, Joyce (Don) Anderson and Mary Jane (Jack) Langford; sister-in-law, Evelyn (Ed) Hull; brother-in-law, Marvin (Jeanette) Buckalew; and many nieces and nephews. Gerald loved his family and friends. The boys were always joking and having fun with their cousins when they were growing up. He was a busy and community minded person and helped when he could for those in need! Gerald will be greatly missed by the family and all his friends! May he rest in peace. Funeral Service
