Funeral services for George Marshall Baker, 71, of rural Lucas will be Monday, May 14 at 10:30 AM at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Family will receive friends from 4 to 6 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are requested to the Lucas Fire Department or Circle of Life Hospice. George passed away Thursday, May 10, 2007 at the Lucas County Health Center in Chariton. George was born June 17, 1935 in Lucas County to Virgil and Bessie Anderson Baker. He was married to Betty Bales July 11, 1953 in Princeton, MO. They were blessed with 2 children: Debi and Danny. George worked as a steel fabrication inspector for Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel retiring in 1980. He was active in several organizations including: Lucas Betterment, John L. Lewis Museum, National Trappers Association, Isaac Walton, and the Local Steelworkers Union. George enjoyed his family and the outdoors. He loved to trap, fish, and hunt. George was always teasing or joking and enjoyed telling stories to his family and friends. George is survived by his wife Betty; children: Danny (Carrie) Baker of South Bend, IN, and Debi (Richard) Merrill of Estill Springs, TN; 4 grandchildren: Amanda and Ben Merrill and Cassie and Andy Baker; and siblings: Hollis Baker of Chariton, Rita Dixson of Chariton, Verna Blakey of Millerton, and Kenneth Baker of Lucas.
