Gene A. Narber

December 5, 1937 — January 23, 2020

A celebration of life for Gene A. Narber, 82, of Chariton will be Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. A luncheon will be held following the services for a time of sharing and fellowship. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Russell Fire Department, Lucas County Fair Board, or in care of the family. Gene was born December 5, 1937, at Lovilia, Iowa to Reed and Lucille (Mosley) Narber. He grew up with two brothers, Jerry and Jim, on a farm west of Lovilia. Gene started to school in Lovila. When he was in first grade, they moved to a farm purchased from Claud Burley on the Lucas and Wayne County Line. Gene attended Cambria School until he was in 4th grade when the family bought a farm on highway 34 on the Lucas hill. Gene attended Whitebreast Center country school where he graduated from 8th grade. Gene started driving a school bus for Chariton in the fall of 1955 when he was a senior. He graduated from Chariton High School in 1956. That summer he moved to Lakefield, Minnesota, where his parents had rented a farm and moved earlier in the year. In 1957, they farmed in both Minnesota and on the Lucas hill before moving back to the Lucas hill. Gene started driving a school bus for Chariton again. In 1962, Gene married Louise Beebout and worked as a hired-man for Lee and Francis Cottingham for most of a year. Gene then rented a farm east of Chariton from Kenneth Henderson and farmed there for one year. Then, Gene rented a farm at Derby from Maurice Mosher for seven years. Gene and Louise also bought the Shirer farm by Russell and farmed there until the late 80's. During the 80's and 90's, they moved to Chariton, then Lee Summit, Missouri, and back to the Russell area where they started farming again. Gene resumed driving a school bus in 1997 and drove until 2013. Even though Gene had several different jobs, all he ever really wanted to do was farm and auction sales. Gene and Louise were blessed with three sons; Brian Eugene, Greg Arlo, and Gary Lee and one daughter; Kimberly Jo. Gene was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Gene passed away January 23, 2020 at the Legacy Lodge Hospice in Chariton. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 57 years, Louise; sons: Brian (Mark), Greg (Cheryl), Gary (Jennifer); daughter, Kimberly (Jimmey) Etter; grandsons: Johnathan (Amanda) Etter; granddaughters: Kelsey (Erik) Brackett, Jami, Katlyn, Nicole, Olivia, and Erika Narber; step grandchildren: Kobe, Tyra, and Reagen; great grandson: Benson Arlo Narber; step great granddaughters: Angelynne Blagsvedt and Avery Berst; brother: Jimmie (Donna) Narber; sister-in-law: Joann Narber; brothers-in-law: Harold (Mary Francis), Leo (Gloria), Donald (Patricia), and Tim Beebout; and many more relatives and friends.
