Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 30, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton with interment following at the Chariton Cemetery. Masonic Services will be conducted by the Paul Revere Masonic Lodge #638 at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at the funeral home. Family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Gary's name to the First United Methodist Church in Chariton or the First United Methodist Church in Norwood. Gary went to the country school in Norwood, Iowa, through sixth grade and then attended grades seven through twelve in Chariton. He graduated high school in 1972 and Southwestern Community College in 1974. He married his high school sweetheart, Sherri Stone, on November 15th, 1975. They shared their lives hand in hand on their farm in Lucas, Iowa, where it was truly Gary's heaven on earth. They raised their three children with laughter, a love of life, and a strong faith in God. After farming for 20 years Gary became a rural mail carrier in the area where he was raised and lived, until his health convinced him to retire. Gary was baptized and confirmed in the Norwood United Methodist Church, and later transferred his membership to the First United Methodist Church in Chariton. In Gary's heart, he belonged to both churches. He was a member of the Paul Revere Masonic Lodge 638 where he enjoyed the discipline, the friendships, and the food. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Albert Chandler, his father-in-law, Keith Stone, brothers-in-law, Franklin Rogers and Gene Honeywell, sister-in-law, Linda Stone, and nephew, Chance Frisby. Gary is survived by his wife, Sherri, son, Tyler (Calan) Chandler, daughter Tracy (Ryan) Jobman, daughter Tiffany (Matt) Klaassen; and grandchildren, Rye, Adry, Maizie, Terra, Elsie, Amelia, and Ellyana; his mother, Lucille Chandler, and siblings, Carol Rogers and Larry (Myra) Chandler. Also, mother-in-law, Bonnie Stone, sister-in-law, Carol Honeywell, brothers-in-law, Karl (Lori) Stone, Kirk (Rita) Stone, Don (Cris) Stone; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Gary was a warm, compassionate, outgoing man, with a terrific sense of humor and an amazing smile and wave for everyone. When diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2013, he remained positive and maintained a will to fight his illness. He was a brave, iron-willed man, with a quiet strength, even throughout his final months. "And his Master said, well done good and faithful servant."
