Gareth James Beaver was born at home in Marion County on October 3rd, 1934 to Cleo "Jake" and Vera (Fridlington) Beaver. The 3rd child of 7. He grew up on the farm in Harvey and Tracy, Ia area. He graduated from Tracy High School in 1954. The only boy in a class of 5. He married Janice Margaret Moses on August 19, 1955 at Zion Church in Pershing, Ia. He was drafted into the service on June 12, 1957 and spent some time in Germany, where he was stationed.
Jim worked as a tool and die maker for almost 40 years at Maytag in Newton, Ia before his retirement at the age of 59. Jim and Janice raised four children Ronia, James, Robert, and Candace. They both accepted Christ as a young couple and raised their family in a Christian home. He was a founding member of Faith Baptist Church where he served in many aspects.
He loved to work with his hands and Mom would love giving him projects around the house. He was always willing to help us all out on any projects we had going. He was our Maytag repairman, Ol' Lonely. If we didn't know how to fix it, Dad could figure it out.
He had a special bond with each of his grandchildren and held a special place for them. He loved to teach them things and do it with a kind spirit.
He suffered a stroke in 2014 and Mom took care of him at home as long as she could. He spent his last years living with Mom at Westridge Speciality Care where he enjoyed watching westerns and showing us how much stronger he was getting with his fist pumps when we came to visit. He passed away on Saturday, September 18th at the age of 86, with his wife and family by his side.
