Floydean “Dusty” Irene Post was born April 8, 1945 to Floyd and Dortha Rhoades in Des Moines, Iowa. She went to be with her heavenly father on January 19, 2022 with her family by her side.

Dusty grew up on the south side of Des Moines. She loved swimming on the high school swim team. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1964. Dusty married her high school boyfriend, Gary Heck, and although they divorced early in life, they remained friends until Gary passed.

During her marriage to Gary, Dusty lived in Utah. It was there that Dusty met the love of her life, Robert D. Post. They married November 4, 1968. To this marriage, they were blessed with four children: Angela, Aletha, Robert J., and Richard. Dusty was a loving mother with a great sense of humor. She was always playing practical jokes, like surprising one of her children with a squirt of water from the kitchen sink or passing a hand full of salt instead of the saltshaker when asked to pass the salt. Her children also remember having to cash in their allowance for a little TV time since Dusty didn’t want them sitting in front of the television.

Dusty was a member of Park Avenue Christian Church in Des Moines for the majority of her life. She was very active with the youth and ran the Youth Center in the 80s. She always enjoyed helping with dinners at the Youth Center after church.
She worked many jobs in her life, including the postal service, delivering shoppers, working construction, and babysitting her grandkids.

In 2000, Robert and Dusty purchased property north of Chariton. The property became a summer project for the whole family. In 2003, they built their home on the property and hosted many holidays, birthday parties, and even a wedding. Dusty always considered their front door open and made room at their table for any friends in the neighborhood.

Dusty had many passions in her life; Christ being number one and elephants being a very close second. She enjoyed listening to music and played a few instruments in her younger years. She enjoyed reading and working puzzles. In her spare time, she also did her woodworking projects and kept an impressive garden. In the summertime, you could often find her snapping green beans, shucking corn, or putting miles on the lawn mower. Her biggest enjoyments were her grandkids and great grandkids.

Dusty is survived by her husband, Robert D. Post; children: Angela Kingery of Humeston, Aletha (Kevin) Gabbert of Johnston, Robert J. Post of Des Moines, Richard Post of Des Moines; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brothers, James Rhoades of Des Moines and Tom Rhoades of Chariton; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Memorials may be made in care of Dusty’s family to be designated at a later date.
