Lysle Eugene Poush was born on May 26, 1935, in Chariton, Iowa to Lysle and Elsie (Duckworth) Poush. Eugene was a 1953 graduate of the Chariton High School.

Eugene met the love of his life, Elizabeth Mae Briggs, and the two were married on June 27, 1954. Eugene carried Elizabeth’s senior picture in his wallet at all times. The couple was blessed with three children: Michael Ray, Deborah Diane, and Barbara Jean.

Eugene had a deep faith in the Lord and was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Knoxville, Iowa. He was a wonderful family man who worked hard. Not only did he work for 26 years at Firestone as a tire builder, but he also drove a school bus for Chariton Schools for 21 years and drove a truck for his son-in-law Sam. He also enjoyed farming and owned a Christmas Tree farm and gift shop for 18 years. He was a Pilot Car Driver for 11 years, escorting oversized loads all over the country. Eugene always stayed busy, but he enjoyed his work and the people he met while working.

When Eugene wasn’t busy working or tending to his many responsibilities, he was attending the grandchildren and great grandchildren’s events. They brought him so much joy. He also loved to sing, singing in the church choir. He devoted his time at his church, teaching Sunday school for many years. He just really loved others, and it seemed most everything he did, involved people.

Eugene had a great intellect, always willing and loving to learn new things. Some of his favorite hobbies included wood working, which he was so talented at. He also enjoyed the outdoors and would often go hunting and fishing. Eugene loved to run and has been looking forward to being able to run in new shoes on the streets of gold in Heaven.

Eugene will be dearly missed by his wife, Elizabeth; daughters: Deborah (Sam) Mathes and Barbara (Paul) DeJong; daughter-in-law, Karen Poush; grandchildren: Christie (Steve) Fuller, Jonathan (Katie) Mathes, Shane (Suzanne) Mathes, Heather (Chad) Whitney, and Andrew (Emily) DeJong; 21 great grandchildren; and siblings: Janice (Terry) Thomas, Gary (Sandra) Poush, and Mary Sundve.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Poush; grandson, Scotty DeJong; and great grandson, Ace Fuller.
