Ernest "Don" Donald Edwards

Ernest Donald Edwards, lovingly known as Don, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2023, at EveryStep Kavanaugh House.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 10, 2023, at the Chariton Christian Church - Disciples of Christ. A burial will immediately follow at the Chariton Cemetery. Following the burial, the family invites guests to the church for food and a time of fellowship. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Don’s name to the Chariton Christian Church - Disciples of Christ, 1100 Ilion Avenue, Chariton, Iowa, 50049.

Don was born on October 29, 1953, in Corydon, Iowa, to Ernest and Wanda (Wilson) Edwards. He worked at AMF for five years before joining Bridgestone Firestone. At Bridgestone Firestone, Don served as a Systems Analyst for a remarkable twenty-nine years.

Education played a paramount role in Don's life, shaping him into the knowledgeable person he became. In 1971, he graduated from Chariton Community High School. Following high school, Don furthered his education by graduating from Northeast Missouri State University (Truman State University) in 1977, as well as Des Moines Area Community College. During his summer breaks, Don worked construction with his brother-in-law, Ron Cook, to put himself through college.

Outside of his professional life, Don had an array of interests and hobbies that brought him joy. He loved to travel and go camping. Don could also be found working hard on a computerized puzzle or watching a football game. He loved computers and would love to sit at the keyboard and tinker whenever he could.

Don is survived by his wife, Susan (Peluse) Edwards; children: Sarah (Tony) Constantino, Michael Edwards, and Lisa Edwards; a stepson, James Doyle; siblings: Cheryl Cook, David (Vicky) Edwards, Linda (Gary) Steenhoek, Sharon Peluse, and Butch (Laurie) Peluse; step-grandchildren, Kerrigan and Chandler Constantino; step-great grandchild, Everett Salemi; and several nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joann Sciezinki Edwards; infant sister, Deborah Edwards; brother-in-law, Ron Cook; mother and father-in-law, William and Edith Quint; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kenneth and Brenda Mapes.
