Dorothy Arlene (Shappell) Richardson

Dorothy Arlene (Shappell) Richardson, age 86, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2020 at Pella Comfort House.
Dorothy was born February 9, 1934, in Knoxville, Iowa, to parents Marion and Edna (McVey) Shappell. She grew up in Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1952. Dorothy attended cosmetology school and then owned Dorothy’s Cut & Curl. She later worked at the Knoxville Hospital as a unit ward clerk.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Lotis Richards. They later divorced. She was then married to Jim Sherlock until his passing in 1958. Dorothy was united in marriage to David Richardson February 14, 1987 until his passing on June 28, 2011.
Dorothy loved to crochet and enjoyed cooking for her family. She was an active bowler in her younger years. Dorothy was an avid reader and especially enjoyed Danielle Steele books. She also enjoyed gardening and canning. She loved her family and will be missed by them all.
A private family gathering will take place at Breckenridge Cemetery.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Kathy Gay (Milo) of Knoxville, James Sherlock (Lepita) of Mexico, and Kevin Sherlock (Janet) of LeClaire, Iowa; four grandchildren, Jeremy (Jill) Sherlock, Milo (Dani) Gay III, Jamey (Phillip) Mooney, and Christy Sherlock; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Shiann, Paige, Erin, Mylah, Milo IV, Leighton, and one on the way; also several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Edna Shappell; two brothers, Larry Shappell and Charles Shappell; and one sister, Doris Piekema.
Memorials may be given to her family and will be determined on a later date.
